Theys a-feared!
I don't usually talk local politics here (being a liberal in the south makes voting decisions easy), but I just couldn't keep my mouth shut about this one. Apparently, a staffer for ultra-conservative right-wing SC congressman Jim DeMint meant to forward an email she received from a GLBT rights group, but instead replied to the person who sent it. In the email, she referred to the sender as "this dike [sic]."
She has apparently been reprimanded, apologized (via email), but WAS NOT FIRED. There are so many things wrong with this picture I don't know where to start. First, she's stupid enough to reply to an email she meant to forward. Second, she spelled dyke wrong (if she's going to toss around homophobic slurs, she could at least learn to spell them). It's no surprise she wasn't fired, since DeMint is the same congressman who doesn't want gay people (or unmarried pregnant women) to teach in our public schools.
I might be biased, but do we need more confirmation that Republicans hate the gays? In my circles, we use the words "Republican," "Homophobe," and "Dumbass" interchangeably.
KLo, I am so proud to have you as a friend.
ReplyDeleteRight backatcha! Um, did I already ask if you're registered to vote?
ReplyDeleteYes, and yes. I still have my old address on my driver's license (shame on me, I know), but that means I'll be voting in your neighborhood! Woohoo!
