Caution: Roving packs of dominant females...

I've been called any number of the following: Control freak. Pushy. Confident. Aggressive. Forceful. Dominant. Hyperambitious. Disagreeable. Bitch.

In honor of all of the above, my essay from this month's Skirt.

Please don't send me emails asking (1) who Anna Wintour and Sallie Krawcheck are, (2) telling me I shouldn't "tone it down" if you've never met me in person, or (3) hate me for being an Alpha. Out of gratitude, I will offer the following: The working world does not consist of hugs and pink Twinkies and there is no crying in baseball.

  1. Interesting. this reminds me of many conversations I had with coworkers regarding how Democrats could possibly get back into power during the 2004 elections. It seems a difficult task to gain "power" when the practical definition of that word (conniving backstabbery, political manipulation, etc.) is antithetical to the end goal (working together, learning, being good humans). It is a particularly difficult task when a group is really more of a convenient association. I'm always a little sad when I see/hear/read argue about the exact definition of feminist rather than come together with common goals.

    Interesting article

  2. Smoothly written. I like your ideas here. A positive female voice in a culture that objectifies and suppresses us is a valuable thing. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Thanks for the nice words! It's something I feel pretty strongly about and I've always had the "get out of my way and watch my dust" attitude, but lately have begun to realize what I'm missing when I steamroll people.

    Writing, as always, equals therapy.

And Lindsey, I will expect you to submit for November!
