This is my bicycle...

There are many like it, but this one is mine.

* I wanted a bicycle like this one for a long time.
* In February, I found it online and ordered it the same day.
* It arrived in a box. Erin put it together for me.
* When I took it to The Bicycle Shoppe for a pre-road checkup, the guy asked me if it came free with my car.
* I was very proud of myself the first time I rode it to work.
* Once I had a flat on the way home from work and cried.
* I love to ride around the park by my house and to the farmer's market on weekends.

This is my bicycle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Hooah.

  1. Hi Kelley,

I'll come back by to read this later, but right now I'm trying to email everyone to let you know that I've moved from appalachian mermaid to www.carbonpress.blogspot.com.

I hope to see you there!!!

    Sincerely ~ Josephine

  2. Done - and you even get a "new" tag along with it!

  3. Do you know WHY you like this bike so much? It's because it has a seat that actually HOLDS your ASS instead of one of those torture devices shaped like a shoehorn that jam up between your ass bones and try to make a wish with you.

My mountain bike is currently outfitted with the shoehorn variety, and I can't afford to buy a comfy one yet, which is why it's gathering dust under a tarp behind my house.

    Pphhhhttttt.

Enjoy your ride! It looks kinda retro with those whitewall tires...cooolio!

  4. OK, I give up, I know the line "there are many like it" is from somewhere.

It's been rattling around in my brain for long enough. Where the heck is it from?

  5. I used to have a bike with a small seat like that and never rode it. One of my qualifications for the new bike was comfy seat!

The line is from the creed of a US Marine...you might remember it from Full Metal Jacket: "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is MINE."

  6. Thank you.

It was also in Apocalypse Now, which I saw recently. I think that's why it was clicking.

I hate it when things are on the tip of my tongue.
